This is our last week of school!  I can't believe it, but yes, it is!  It has been a pleasure working with each one of your children and watching them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.  Teaching is a very rewarding experience and one that I truly treasure.

Thank you for all that you have done this year to make my job easier and very enjoyable.  St. Thomas parents are really the best!

Please Note:

Monday and Tuesday are full days (regular dismissal)

Wednesday and Thursday are half days of school.

                           Dismissal at 11:50

        Friday, June 23rd
is the last day of school.

                            Dismissal at 10:00

We will spend the week completing reading sheets with comprehension questions and phonics pages in our books.

These reading sheets are great ways to review skills.

I encourage you, this summer, to find similar activities on the Internet.  Look for ones that have follow-up (WHY) and (HOW) questions.  Many times the children do not pay attention to the specifics.

We will continue preparing for 3rd grade in Math.  The children are doing very well and are very excited about their accomplishments!  Please try go on IXL this summer.

We will also be working on a United States map, coloring the states, and locating surrounding borders.

Research has shown that children lose some skills over the summer.

In order to prevent a greater loss, your child should read at least 5-6 books over the summer.  I encourage all of the children to join their local library.  This is a worthwhile experience and a great way to keep on track with reading during the summer months.  The librarian from the West Hempstead Library was at school last week to explain the summer program. Please sign up at your local library.

If you go on a car trip, don’t forget to talk about the four directions, names the bridges you cross, mileage, etc.  A eight year old mind is like a sponge!

If your child was recommended for a summer program or a tutor please take the opportunity to help them be ready for third grade.

If any of your children would like to email me over the summer about a good book, a special trip taken, etc. I will be very happy to correspond with them!

Finally, I would like to thank our class parents, Mrs. Andino and Mrs. Hernandez for all their hard work and commitment this year!  You were wonderful!

HAVE A HAPPY, SUNNY, HEALTHY SUMMER!
REMEMBER TO READ,
READ, READ!

 Love,
Ginny Miller
