2nd Grade

This is a very exciting week for us!

Our show,

A Musical Celebration of Black America,

is on Friday, at 9:30am.

All of the children are practicing very hard, and they are doing a terrific job.  The show is definitely something you don’t want to miss!

The  Famous Black American book report posters have arrived and they are all wonderful!  The children are very proud of the work they have done!  Thank you for your support during this assignment.  This week the children will continue reciting the oral part of the report.  So far, they are terrific!

Our stories this week are a humorous fiction, “The Signmaker’s Assistant,” and a little play, “The Trouble With Signs.”  We will be discovering how text and pictures help us figure out what is happening in a story.  The phonics skill will be words with “ar”.  This sound will be incorporated into the Spelling Words.

The children have all done very well Telling Time!  We will be moving on to Chapter 8 Measuring Length.  We will be using inches, feet, and yards. The children will learn to estimate length, as well as, make the actual measurement.

Report Cards will be going home on Wednesday.  I look forward to meeting with many of you this Thursday evening, March 3rd to discuss your child’s progress.  It will be helpful if you bring your copy of the report with you to your conference.

The conferences are each 10 minutes, but if you feel you will need more time, we can schedule an additional conference another day.  Please understand that I need to follow the schedule, as close as possible, so that parents with multiple conferences can be on-time for their other conference.

The remainder of the conferences will be on Monday, March 7th.

The children will be working on a Social Studies project in class about Needs and Wants. Please send in any magazines that have pictures they can cut out (Family Circle, Parents, Better Homes, Good Housekeeping, catalogs, etc.).

Have a great week!
