Dear Parents,

It was a pleasure to speak with so many of you last Thursday evening. I have many notes to follow up on and I will be in touch you. For those who could not make it, please feel free to contact me so we can set up another time for you! 


Our Christmas Concert takes place on Thursday evening. The children will come to their classroom before the performance. At the end of the evening PARENTS ONLY will be permitted to pick up their child from the classroom . 



AFTER SCHOOL HELP IN MATH will be held every Wednesday. Pick up time will be 3:30 . Thank you!

ELA:

Each student should be reading independently for 20 minutes a day at home ! 

This week concludes Unit 1 in Reading/ELA. On Monday we will practice for the Benchmark Assessments. Students will be given texts to read and respond to. The grammar will include types of sentences,quotations , run on sentences ,sentence fragments, and proper nouns.

As a special treat before Christmas, we will begin reading a trade book - The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. We will be journaling about each of the 7 chapters and noting new words encountered. 


MATH  : Chapter 3 is short and almost complete! However, there are a number of students who need additional practice with multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits. This week we will complete Ch. 3 and allow some time for practicing the new algorithm! The assessment will be next week.Please note the IXL sites listed below for further practice. 


TIMES TABLES :   PLEASE CONTINUE TO REVIEW AT HOME!!!  The chapter assessment may prove difficult for those who are weak in this area. 



RELIGION (GRADE 4 ) :The test for Ch. 10 is this Tuesday. Please find additional notes in Useful Links. 
Before we begin The study of the third commandment we will discuss the story of Juan Diego (Dec. 9) and why we observe the special day on Dec. 12 for Our Lady of Guadalupe. This is a beautiful story which always fascinates the children. 
We will light our second Advent candle and take a walk to our chapel for a short prayer service for Advent. 

Attention Grades 4 and 5 :
Don't forget our Christmas Service Project !We would love to bring an abundance of baby items to Momma's House for Christmas so if you have not already done so please send in a pacifier, bib, wipes, etc. Thank you !



RELIGION (GRADE 5):Please note -A power point to use as a study aid can be found in Useful Links! The Ch, 5 test will be given on Wednesday. 

The Baptismal Candles drawn by the fifth graders were gorgeous and on display during our conferences. 

Grade 5 will have a 'SECOND STEP" lesson this week which is entitled -LISTENING WITH ATTENTION. The activity paper will be sent home in the student folders. 


SOCIAL STUDIES (GRADE 4)
This week we will be learning about our first peoples and how they arrived in NY. Why were some hunters and some farmers? Our map study this week is about Elevation. A quiz will be given next week .


SOCIAL STUDIES (GRADE 5) :
Quiz on Wednesday Ch. 2 Lesson 1 
 
Our focus this week turns to the first peoples of Canada, the history of New France, and the conflict between France and Great Britain over Canada. 




All  children  have their user names and passwords for Think Central(math and reading) and IXL  (math practice site).Please note that the sign in for IXL math is their user name @apostle . They can try them out in Computer class. We do not yet have the ConnectEd passwords for science and social studies.

Our READING LOG  is proceeding well !  Students may record one book a day and enter the date next to it.
